![]() Here are the three main symptoms of P0741 in the Pontiac Vibe: The wiring should be the first place that you should check, as it will most likely be the problem. Although, it’s probably not going to be the first place that you should check. Bad TCM– The transmission control module itself can be the cause of P0741 in your Vibe.Short in the TCC– A short in the wiring going from the TCC to the TCM can cause the P0741.Even if it does so at a slightly higher RPM. The good news is that when this clutch goes out the transmission will still take you to where you need to go. Bad Torque Converter Clutch– The clutch itself can go bad, just like a manual transmission. ![]() Here’s how to use a scanner to diagnose it: That being said, it sure doesn’t hurt to follow the wiring and see if you can find any noticeable issues. It involves a lot of checking for circuit resistance and testing the wiring. This can be a tough problem for the shade tree mechanic to deal with. Here’s a good article on how to diagnose and repair the TCC Solenoid. Bad Torque Converter Lock up Solenoid– The solenoid that allows the torque converter to lock up is often the culprit. These are the most common problems that can cause the P0741 in the Vibe: With this knowledge, there can only be so many things that are causing the P0741. More often than not, this is going to be the issue. Stuck Off– Somewhere in the Vibe’s wiring, there is an error that is keeping the TCC from engaging.Performance– The clutch, like all clutches, is failing. With P0741, the code gives you two reasons as to why the code has registered. It is a generic powertrain code, which means that it has the same meaning regardless of who manufactured the vehicle (Vibe or not). The vehicles PCM (Powertrain Control Module) will throw the P0741 trouble code in the Pontiac Vibe if there is a difference that is greater than 200 rpm between the transmission input shaft and the torque converter speed. Although, the engine response may “feel” different without the torque converter locking. It is purely a transmission related code. P0741 will not affect the way that your Pontiac Vibe’s engine performs at all. P0741 can register whenever this connection is not happening at all or happening properly. The Vibe uses a clutch in the torque converter to lock the engine and transmission together at highway speed. P0741: Torque Converter Clutch Circuit → Performance or Stuck Off It’s know to affect the Pontiac Vibe quite often. Ouch.Īny advice? Toyota said not to bother with buying a new screen filter, just give it a good clean.P0741 is a very common trouble code. My local Toyota parts dept was able to get one in today for the low low price of $250 bucks. In a scramble i called around to every parts place and no one could get it in by this weekend (i have a 50 mile commute each way and dont want to drive my Tundra). It took a detour from Tx to Honolulu HI.How the (removed) did that end up happening? Lucky little solenoid got a Hawaiian vacation. I ordered one from Rockauto for $75 and it was shipped from Tx to me in CA. Do these solenoids just slide out after i unscrew the harness and unclip the connector? The just slide the new one back in? While i've got it open, i'm going to replace the solenoid and i also bought some Toyota T-IV transmission fluid (as per the link). Tomorrow i'm going to try to pull the pan and do a proper flush by following this: I changed the transmission fluid (just a drain and refill) about at 100k miles (at 150k now) and used the T-IV safe transmission fluid. I got a CEL (P0741) for the lock up solenoid. ![]() Anyways, I've still got the 2006 Matrix Xr with the automatic trans. I was very active on matrixowners a while back, but it seems to be dead jim. ![]()
